ARVO and the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) will hold a joint one-day conference, ARVO@PAAO, to explore the current status of vision and ophthalmic research. The goal of the ARVO@PAAO conference is to bring basic and translational research to PAAO’s clinical environment during the Pan-American Congress of Ophthalmology. Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the theme for this meeting, which will be held at the Westin Hotel.
The ARVO@PAAO conference will highlight the multifactorial etiology of DR and diabetic macular edema. The study of the important aspects of the pathogenesis and molecular pathways involved in the development of DR has led to the development of improved therapies that have come into use in clinical practice. Promising therapeutic agents are currently being evaluated in clinical trials and additional molecular targets are being evaluated. Combined therapies targeting multiple pathways may yield synergistic treatment responses as several cytokines may be involved in the development of DR. In addition, advances in imaging modalities to detect and follow the progression of DR will be presented.
More details will be available soon.
