Members-in-Training Committee

Committee Status: Ad hoc

Committee Roster
Past Workshops

Committee Composition: The Members-In-Training Committee (MIT) consists of regular ARVO members as well as “Members-In-Training” (pre- and post- doc students, fellows, and residents).

Committee Description: The MIT monitors the issues facing members-in-training and recommends ways for ARVO to respond. Our goals are to enhance the experience of MIT’s at ARVO and to help provide avenues for them to learn about ways in which they can build successful careers in ophthalmology and vision research.

Committee Activities:
  • Increases organizational sensitivity to the concerns and needs of members-in-training.
  • Sponsors workshops, forums and organizes events at the Annual Meeting that promote peer interaction and encourage full Meeting participation. Additional events are also organized at other scientific meetings as appropriate.
  • Serves as a clearinghouse for information on opportunities, programs, and resources specifically aimed at members-in-training.
  • Identifies possible mentors and role models for students in addition to those encountered in the regular course of their training.
  • Reports to the Board of Trustees at its regular meetings.

Committee Meetings: The Committee meets during the ARVO Annual Meeting and conducts business via ARVOConnect and email and if needed by conference call during the year.
