This workshop included the newest clinical data on diabetic retinopathy and future clinical trial designs that are aimed at arresting damage from diabetes prior to significant vision loss.

This one-day public workshop reviewed clinical trial design considerations for diabetic retinopathy in order to develop strategies for:

  • Improved trial design and endpoints based on current evidence
  • Approaches to classifying and stratifying the patient population
  • Clinically meaningful surrogate or interim endpoints
  • Potentially impactful gaps for research funding

Participants discussed: 

  • Clinical trial design for progression to, and treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR)
  • New considerations for trial design for diabetic retinopathy edema (DME)
