HARVO - AARVO Joint Symposium

Two ARVO International Chapter Affiliates, the Hungarian Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (HARVO) and Austrian Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (AARVO), organized a joint meeting for the second time. Following the AARVO – HARVO joint symposium in Austria 2011, this year HARVO invited young researchers and representatives of AARVO to the Annual Meeting of the Hungarian Ophthalmological Society.

This meeting took place on June 8, 2012, in Siófok, Hungary, as a plenary session at the national meeting. Martine J. Jager, former president of ARVO, Herbert Reitsamer, president of AARVO, and János Németh, president of HARVO, chaired the session, which was moderated by Miklós Resch, the secretary of the HARVO.

Martine J. Jager gave the keynote lecture, titled “Aging and its influence on the eye.” Senior scientist Herbert Reitsamer introduced his group work on the correlation of blood flow and intraocular pressure. In addition, five young scientists from Austria and six from Hungary presented their research.

HARVO Travel Grant recipients received certificates.

The meeting opened new potentials for collaborations among the countries. Organizers and participants concluded that cooperation of ARVO International Chapter Affiliates could also be successful in smaller research communities.
