      • U.S. FY2012 vision research funding: At least $5 million more — The U.S. Congress has passed funding legislation that gives NIH a $299 million increase. This gives an additional $3.2 million to NEI. Read the details from the National Alliance for Eye and Vision Research.
      • Defense vision research cut 20% — Congress has cut the Peer Reviewed Medical Research-Vision line in defense appropriations from the FY2011 level of $4 million to $3.2 million for FY2012. However, the actual amount awarded by the Department of Defense's Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) to vision researchers has exceeded the appropriated amount due to the quality and responsiveness of the submissions, so a final funding number will be unknown until TATRC implements the FY2012 program late this year.
