Due to COVID-19, Capitol Hill and educational events hosted by the Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR) were unable to be held in person. ARVO was pleased to provide technical and platform assistance so that these activities could continue, supporting eye and vision research funding in the U.S. and globally.

Nov. 19, 2020  Alliance for Eye and Vision Research (AEVR) continued its series of educational briefings on exciting new developments in eye and vision research by recognizing the first annual Thyroid Eye Disease Awareness Week, Nov. 16 - 20, 2020. This congressional briefing, hosted by AEVR, featured guest speakers Gary Lelli, MD, vice chair of Ophthalmology, Weill Cornell Medicine and Christine G., Thyroid Eye Disease patient advocate. Sept. 23, 2020 As part of their Sixth Annual Emerging Vision Scientists Day on Capitol Hill recognizing International AMD Awareness Week 2020 and Health Aging Month, AEVR hosted a Congressional Briefing featuring National Eye Institute (NEI) clinician-scientist Tiarnan D. Keenan, BM, BCh, PhD and T.Y. Alvin Liu, MD, Wilmer Eye Institute/Johns Hopkins University, who discussed how Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a key role in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases.
