Audience: Vision scientists and researchers interested in grant writing strategies for academic research.

Summary: This is part two of a two-part webinar series designed to help researchers in all stages of their career find funding sources. This workshop series offers approaches to strategy, selection, and technical skills in writing grants for scientists and entrepreneurs. The series will cover how to write grant applications for NIH, foundations and big Pharma. A successful grant application contains both high quality scientific aims and objectives and a well written succinct grant application. Scientists from all stages in their career from training to leading a start-up business should be aware that they will likely need more than one type of grant during an academic or business career. This two-part WEAVR series is led by experts who have successfully obtained grants and serve on review panels at federal and private grant agencies in ocular research.

Part 2 focuses on NIH grants for academic research. Presentations include:

• Foundation grants for initial funding for high-risk high reward research
• NIH grant opportunities
• Differences between NIH and Foundation funding mechanism and tips for effective grant writing
• Multi-PI/ collaborative grant mechanisms
