Health disparities exist within the U.S. health system for eye and vision care, and communities of color are most often the recipients of disparate care. Achieving health equity will require the examination of the social and environmental factors fueling these disparities and the coming together of researchers, clinicians and community leaders to implement solutions.

This conference is your opportunity to connect with those working to bring health equity to eye and vision care through leadership, research and community involvement.

Who should attend?

Clinician-scientists, optometrists, ophthalmology residents and medical/research students seeking to learn more about the social determinants of vision health, how to study them and how to design effective interventions.

After participating in this CME activity, you should be able to:

  • Explain the social determinants that influence eye and vision health.
  • Discuss the epidemiology of health disparities in eye care within the U.S.
  • Describe how to study healthcare and genetic data to identify health disparities
  • Summarize characteristics of effective interventions to improve health equity in eye care within the U.S.
  • Implement strategies to increase diversity within research or clinical teams.
  • Explain how to locate and apply for health equity funding opportunities.
