Everyone is welcome to attend the Women in Eye and Vision Research (WEAVR) Luncheon, being held at the ARVO Annual Meeting. The event features a guest speaker, plus food and beverages, and networking with your colleagues.

Novartis Gene Therapies

Creativity in the workplace

Emily Chee is General Manager of the Americas for Novartis Gene Therapies. She oversees the Gene Therapies portfolio including Zolgensma — one of the first gene therapies to be approved by the FDA. A long-time pharmaceutical veteran with over two decades in the industry, she has been a pioneer in commercializing gene therapies in both the U.S. market as well as in lower and middle-income countries.

During her talk, Chee will discuss the need for more creative solutions in the workplace and provide examples of creativity in traditionally non-creative jobs. She will also highlight key factors which stifle creativity in most work environments and review actions that can be taken to enhance creativity.

Chee grew up in Canada where she earned a BSc in Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia as well as an MBA from the University of Western Ontario. She lives in New Jersey with her husband and two children. When she is not working, Chee enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling.

Event proceeds

All proceeds from the WEAVR Luncheon support women in the visual sciences. Funds raised support travel grants and Developing Country Eye Researcher Travel Fellowships for female scientists to attend the ARVO Annual Meeting. Proceeds also underwrite the Women's Leadership Development Program.
