Dr. Roger Vogel Award for Pharmaceutical Research

Recognizing significant contributions to the discovery or development of pharmaceutical products to treat eye diseases

Roger Vogel, MD

This award remembers Roger Vogel, MD, an experienced clinical researcher who made significant contributions to ophthalmology and to the preservation of sight. During his 32 years in the ophthalmic pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Vogel led the development of more than a dozen commonly used ophthalmic pharmaceutical products in the areas of glaucoma, infectious disease, ocular inflammation, allergy and retinal disease.

The Dr. Roger Vogel Award for Pharmaceutical Research recognized an ARVO member who has made significant contributions to the discovery or development of pharmaceutical products to treat eye diseases. The $10,000 award recognized the contributions of Roger Vogel, MD to the pharmaceutical business. Over his career of almost 30 years, Dr. Vogel's work led to the development of many of the medicines now used by ophthalmologists.

The award was created through a generous contribution from Point Guard Partners, where Dr. Vogel was a partner at the time of his death in 2015. "It made [Dr. Vogel] very proud to have the award named for him and to have his life's work recognized in this way,” said Barry Butler, Dr. Vogel’s partner at Point Guard.

The first award was presented in 2014 and continued for five years. The last award was given in 2018.
