Partner with us
ARVO is working with members of the visual science field to curate and disseminate resources and opportunities to empower the next generation of vision scientists. Setting Your Sights (SYS) is a resource hub we have buit to benefit students ages 12 - 18, where they can access information online on eye and vision science/STEM educational materials, courses, internships, mentorships, events and contests. SYS also facilitates mentorship connections with students and ARVO members.
Program Goals
- Create and provide educational resources for students interested and/or involved in eye and vision science, research and STEM.
- Showcase career paths in eye and vision research and/or ophthalmology to students, ages 12 – 18, to boost interest in the field.
- Develop a pipeline in the eye and vision field from high school to career launch.
- Improve representation in the vision science field, particularly from underrepresented groups.
- Engage ARVO members and nonmembers in the critical work of improving diversity and equity in the field.
We need your help! These goals can only be achieved through collaboration with partners like you. Join us in this essential initiative by participating in any of the below items:
- Share material from the Setting Your Sights Program with students, parents and schools in your community to help students in search of information about getting started in eye and vision science.
- Use/share the SYS toolkit to provide an overview about the eye and vision field.
- Sign up as a SYS mentor to provide guidance to high-school students interested in visual sciences.
- Raise awareness about what Setting Your Sights has to offer and how you can contribute:
- Use our email templates to contact various stakeholders (e.g., schools, colleagues, field experts, industry).
- Download SYS one-pagers to share with your network or students.
