The following are only examples of collaborations and applicants who would qualify for the ARVO/VSS Fellowship. Other applicants and collaborations are encouraged.

ARVO trainee

  • Someone who is doing imaging of the retina with controlled stimulus presentation who wishes to acquire knowledge and/or training in psychophysical testing to determine the color perceived when individual or small groups of receptors are stimulated from a VSS member expert in the area.
  • Someone well trained in the detection, signs and symptoms of a disease process (for example diabetes) who would like to learn psychophysical testing techniques designed to detect loss of function earlier in the natural history of the disease from a VSS member expert in the area.
  • Someone well trained in refractive IOL implantation who wishes to test various IOLs designed to increase the depth of focus who wishes to acquire knowledge on testing reading speed from a VSS member expert in the area.

VSS trainee

  • Someone who does functional imaging of the visual cortex in healthy participants who wishes to acquire training in the diagnosis, characteristics and clinical evaluation of patients with amblyopia from an ARVO member expert in the area.
  • Someone who studies the psychophysics of color vision who wishes to receive training in the cell biology of a retinal disorder from an ARVO member expert in the area.
  • Someone who studies the perception of faces in healthy participants who wishes to acquire training in the diagnosis, characteristics and clinical evaluation of patients with macular degeneration from an ARVO member expert in the area.
